Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is one of the key universities for financial services area in China. Their expertise and networks in Chinese finance and banking sector, as well as access to national level statistics are of great importance to research objective of the eBEREA exchange programme to study how to improve the financial services offered to consumers and citizens in EU and China. SWUFE is the Chinese coordinator of the programme.
Research Institute of eCommerce, Payment and Settlement (RIEPS) was founded in 2005 by SWUFE, Bureau of Payment and Settlement of People’s Bank of China, and Center of Payment and Settlement of People’s Bank of China. RIEPS aims at global cooperation with researchers, banks, companies as well as government agencies, with the long-term goal to further push the e-payment research work development and upgrade the banking service in China.
More than 20 researchers are working for RIEPS, including professors, professionals, doctoral students from universities and banks. It has a computer lab for simulating the banking payment and settlement system in China, which is sponsored by People’s Bank of China. RIEPS compiled china’s first Report of Payment and Settlement in close collaboration with People’s Bank of China. It organised and hosted the 2nd Sino-US Workshop on Electronic Commerce (2004) It also organized the first International Workshop on Electronic Payment and Online Financial Services in China in 2007.
